In January 2002 Fetware located a
small custom cloth diaper manufacture that agreed to make
a cloth diaper for our adult customers. This company uses
only US produced premium quality Flannel and Birdseye cotton
for these diapers. Our diapers are sewn with a double lock
stitch around the edges for long life wash after wash. If
you have ever purchased cloth diapers you know they are
NOT all the same. An inexpensive diaper can cost more then
a quality diaper because an inferior fabric will not last
as long as a quality one. You replace them sooner and that
is what makes an inexpensive diaper so expensive.
Quality is #1
Our diapers are made from the finest US woven cottons available.
Thick, Thicker, Thickest. Before selecting our new diaper
products to feature on our web site we spoke with many 24/7
diaper wearers and many occasional diaper wearers to find
out their personal experience with adult cloth diaper products.
We learned that that right thickness is the key to comfort
and lowest cost per wearing. A night diaper should absorb
through the night without leaking. Day diapers should absorb
without unnecessary bulk. Night diapers have an extra full
sheet of Terry Cloth edge to edge to for more wicking. For
the day weight we use only two full edge-to-edge sheets
of cotton to reduce bulk at the hips. Both diapers have
5 layers of material in the center crotch area.
Cotton Flannel or
Birdseye Cotton?
Flannel Cotton is soft and very absorbent. Weaving fuzzy
thread into cloth makes Flannel cloth. The fuzzy part of
the cloth is what you remove from the lint trap of your
dryer each time your diaper is machine dried. Flannel is
soft to the touch and very absorbent when it is new. As
time passes threads become thinner and those qualities slowly
disappear. When it comes to cost vs. usable life of the
flannel diaper is a premium quality diaper. Sadly, a flannel
diaper will need replacement much sooner than a Birdseye
cloth diaper.
Birdseye Cotton. Birdseye cotton is a complex diamond pattern
weave that has more threads per inch and doesn't depend
of the fuzzy nature of the thread to make the cloth full
and thick.
Birdseye Cotton is a long lasting, soft, and the
traditional cloth used for most baby diapers today. The
cloth spreads moisture quickly to avoid over soaking the
crotch. Transferring moisture is what a cloth diaper does
best. It corrects the fault of most disposable adult diapers
on the market which leak when the crotch gets soaked faster
than the sides can absorb. If your interested in the lowest
cost per use diaper the Birdseye is the best value by far.
If you want the diaper that is initially more absorbent
the Flannel is best. Both Flannel and Birdseye are great
materials.

We learned that that the right thickness is the key to comfort
and lowest cost per wearing. The longer a diaper tumbles
in the dryer the more of the diaper is being shaken loose
only to end up in the lint trap. Not to mention the energy
cost of running the dryer extra time to get too many extra
layers dry. We favor using a high quality diaper with a
reasonable number of layers. Our customers tell us that
a high quality X layer diaper will absorb without excess
bulk. Night diapers have two additional layers. If more
absorbency is needed adding a "Soaker Pad" as they are known,
becomes the equivalent to wearing two diapers in most cases.
